“NO, WE NEED TO FIGHT. GET READY.”
Halo: Infinite is the definite evolution in the Halo franchise saga if the interviews from 343 Industries are to be believed. Although the game does not has a firm release date, it is to be expected that the game will launch alongside the next-gen Xbox console the XBOX Series X.
Master Chief has remained a kind of a mascot for the Xbox consoles, and it is to be somewhat expected that Halo: Infinite will be what Halo: Combat Evolved was to the first generation Xbox. It will certainly prove vital to the sales of the new Xbox.
However, there is a whole lot that we still don’t know about the game. 343 Industries originally announced the game at E3 2018 with a brief but beautiful trailer which was running on the in-game engine Slipspace, following which after a long silence a second trailer was released at E3 2019 where it was confirmed that Infinite would launch alongside XBOX Series X. The game will also be launched on XBOX ONE and PC.
HALO: Infinite Story
Halo Infinite will be a sequel to Halo 5: Guardians and the story will continue from where it ended last time. The studio has made it clear that Halo: Infinite is the next chapter in the story and not a prequel or a spin-off. The confusion arose from 343 Industries ditching the number with the sequel and opting for a name title, reminding players of Halo: ODST, Halo: Reach etc. Halo 5 faced a lot of criticism regarding its short campaign, a lackluster story and with the story ending on a cliff hanger. Halo 5 put undue importance on multiplayer which not many appreciated and which clearly hurt the actual story campaign.
“It is Halo 6. You should just consider it Halo 6. Don’t think of it as a weird prequel kind of thing. It’s the next story. It’s the next chapter in what is going on.” Said Jeff Easterling, Writer,
and Producer at 343 Industries. The story of Halo: Infinite continues after a time-break, hence years have passed between the events of Halo 5 and the point where Infinite will begin.
Cortana will return as well as the villain and the story will likely show the ramifications of the AI revolution that Cortana began. The game will also be taking place on a Halo ring, probably a call back to the first Halo game.
Unlike Halo 5, the main focus will remain on Master Chief throughout the game. Halo 5 broke up the gameplay between Spartan Locke and Master Chief (A move that not many people appreciated). But it has bee confirmed that Halo: Infinite is a Master Chief story. Infinite has been touted as a “spiritual reboot” but players need not worry too much, the story will continue where it was left.
The game returns to many of the elements of the first title. Master Chief’s model design has returned to its original form, looking even more beautiful with the help of the advanced engine, with its classic retro green. The game will also be taking place on a Halo ring the place where the first title took place.
HALO: INFINITE Gameplay
Right now, we have no news regarding the gameplay. Although it is being speculated the game will be launched late 2020 during the holiday season, the studio has yet to reveal any gameplay. The game would probably have been showcased at E3 2020 but with the Coronavirus Outbreak E3, this year has been canceled. This is not the only gaming expo that has been affected due to the outbreak. Taipei Game Show was canceled as well along with PAX. Hopefully, the release date will not be affected due to the pandemic and development and launch will go on smoothly.
343 Industries did confirm two features which will be returning to Halo: Infinite, which are split-screen co-op and armor customization. A beta version of the game will probably release some time in summer. Forge system will also be returning and 343 Industries has claimed that unique features have been incorporated into the Slipspace engine. It has been also confirmed that no microtransactions or loot boxes will be resent in the game. Their presence in the game ruined the already delicate balance of gameplay.
You will also likely be able to play the game at 4K 60FPS, considering the bold claims made by both Microsoft and 343 Industries. But at this point, all we can do is sit and wait. What a time to be an Xbox fan!
HALO: INFINITE Release Date and Platform
The game will be released on XBOX ONE, XBOX Series X and PC. The game will also be available through the Xbox Games Pass from day one. As of yet no details regarding price or system specifications have been revealed.
