Nintendo announced that the iconic Nintendo game Mario Cart will be coming to popular mobile platforms Android and iOS in March 2019. The announcement was made via a tweet on the Nintendo of America twitter page. The tweet reads as follows
The checkered flag has been raised and the finish line is near. A new mobile application is now in development: Mario Kart Tour! #MarioKartTour Releasing in the fiscal year ending in March 2019.
The announcement comes as no surprise considering how Nintendo has been slowly edging it’s way into the smartphone gaming space. The console giants entered the mobile segment with “Miitomo” back in 2016 and gained massive success with Pokemon GO.
The latest Mario game (which coincidentally enough, is also the first Mario game) “Super Mario Run” was announced at the iPhone announcement of 2016 and released in December of the same year for iOS.
The Android release was also launched swiftly a few months later. Super Mario Run is a paid game that costs $10 following a short demo level and at the time of writing as been downloaded more than 200 million times.
It is without a doubt that when Mario Kart Tour eventually hits the stores of the respective mobile platforms in 2019 it will turn out to be a huge success considering how the game is a source of pleasant childhood nostalgia for a wide array of people.
However no further information was released by Nintendo regarding the game or the direction it’s going to take. But one can rest assured that the end product will be nothing short of phenomenal considering how Nintendo have been crushing the handheld/mobile gaming platforms lately.
With numerous releases on their extremely popular console Nintendo Switch and the massive performance on the mobile platforms, it is not a long shot to say that 2018 is going to be a great year at the Nintendo Camp.
