Atlus announced the new game in the Shin Megami Tensei series entitled Shin Megami Tensei V via a live stream on the 23rd of October 2017. While the game is definitely in its early stages, the trailer that accompanied the announcement does shed light on some key points about the game.
While the previous instalment in the Shin Megami Tensei series took place in an alternate reality world, SMT 5 takes place in modern day Tokyo. The trailer shows a young boy and girl (very much akin to SMT’s style) being killed by a bunch of flying minion like demons.
The trailer does give the fans a faint idea of the setting of the game, it sadly does not reveal a lot about anything else. However, what’s confirmed is that the game will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive and will serve as a mainline release in the series and not as a spinoff to any of the previous games. This year also marks the 25th year of the game’s first release.
The previous mainline entry in the series, 2013’s Shin Megami Tensei 4, was a Nintendo 3DS-exclusive but with this year’s Nintendo’s big Switch reveal event, Shin Megami Tensei is heading to Nintendo Switch for sure.
