Just after the release of Yakuza Kiwami, Sega are back with a remake of their 2006 game Kiwami 2 that follows the same plot structure of Yakuza 2 while adding new gameplay features and enhancements from later titles, as well as new story elements to resolve confusing plot points in the original release and tie the game more closely to other titles in the series. Remaking the PS2 game with new gameplay mechanics and characters it looks like the game will be a PS4 exclusive.
The game takes place one year after the first game. You play as Kazuma Kiryu, the Dragon of Dojima who finds himself in yet another precarious situation involving the Japanese mafia. After the death of Akira Nishikiyama, the Tojo Clan is falling apart, causing conflicts with Osaka’s Omi Alliance, backed by the late Nishikiyama.
Much like Yakuza 6, Kiwami 2 will run on the same dragon game engine. In Yakuza 2 alongside the main story players will also be able to play side stories and earn themselves EXP bonuses and items which they can later use in battles. And from what we hear players can now upgrade their arsenal with new attacks, abilities, and buffs and increase their chance of winning battles.
Kiwami 2 has also added an all-new campaign for Goro Majima. This story aims to expand upon the events first explored in Yakuza, giving more depth to the Mad Dog’s character.
The game is set to be released for PlayStation 4 on December 7, 2017, in Japan.
